Trolls will eat up arrows, so make sure you surround them with spearmen and just accept the casualties. When you're assualting garrisons, don't even seige the gates until your arrows are raining hell. Your archers are incredibly-incredibly powerful and can mow down all the orcs without much issue. I reccomend Silvan Elves for first playthrough. If you're playing High Elves, you want to relocate your capital to your one port city (i'm forgetting the name, but I believe you start with three cities- it's the "middle" city between the far east city and Rivendale. Gondor is like high elves but harder.īoth elf factions are incredibly powerful, and can be used to win most of the game pretty easily (until you hit Rhun spamming the Elephants) They are a simpler playstyle of "have better infantry than them and win" rhun is pretty fun. After you clear out dol guldor, you can finish off the misty mountains goblins, then go for the win. As Wood elves, obviously, you go south through mirkwood and get the anduin vale neutrals to link up with lothlorien. As High elves, you can expand quite a bit down the western coast before running into isengard. you need to know where the neutral territories are so you can get to them before your natural allies. As wood elves, same principle, but you win with archery before they even close. This remains true until you find trolls, which you will come to hate. As high elves, you basically should win battles with archers and the cavalry, never taking more than a few casualties on non general units. The exception is generals bodyguards, which are heavy cavalry for high elves, or elite archers for wood elves.

I never won a dale campaign, but as Elves you use their militia well into the late game, because their professional units are rare and hard to get. Except instead of deus ex machina saving your ass it's total war tactics.

Grind down the garbage and seize the Land of Shadows, then it's off to the Haradrim :Dīasically, the mod is designed to evoke the feeling in the big battles from the books/movies where the enemy has 20x as many men as you do but you somehow win anyway. With the land you took from Rhun and experienced generals and units, Mordor will crumble after the first wave of decent armies. You'll be pleased to hear Mordor Orcs are pitifully weak compared to the Men of Rhun, sans Trolls and Black Numenoreans who can be focused down with your Godly Bowmen. If you're lucky Minas Tirith is still flying the banners of Men. Taking out Mordor's means of recruitment will be a huge boon to Gondor who will be preoccupied with tying down the Witch King's armies primarily. Once Rhun is dealt with you'll be in direct contact with Mordor who will be buttfucking Gondor by that point, do them a favor and invade from the North. Cooperation with the Dwarves of Erebor is vital to challenging them, understand expansion is going to be slow and be careful not to overextend yourself. Rhun is one of the strongest Evil factions in vanilla because of how they go unopposed in their expansion (this is rectified in Divide and Conquer sub-mod). Nab rebel territories in the East and South before focusing on Rhun. The Dwarfs of Erebor are right on your doorstep, be best buds with them through the rest of your campaign. This is useful for either Good or Evil but Good benefit from it especially. Send your diplomats to the far corners of Middle Earth, from the Variags of Khand to the Grey Havens and everywhere in between, get those trade agreements going. The forces of Good (unless you're Eriador) have quality over quantity, this means that good economies are vital to stemming the tide of Evil. Think we missed one?
